Flowstone's summer bouldering league 2023
August 30, 2023-September 20, 2023
We’re excited to present our first-ever Flowstone Climbing Summer Bouldering
League! The league is about gathering the community together for a healthy dose
of friendly competition.
Climbers aged 16 and above, regardless of their skill level, are welcome to join the excitement. Not into competing, you say? Well, we see things a bit differently. The league’s scoring system is based on a relative scoring system. This means sending a
V2 can be just as rewarding as sending a v9.
Wondering about the process? Here’s the scoop.
Each week, you’ll be given 10 new boulders. You'll record your attempts and sends. Your points from that round will contribute to your team’s overall score. the top 3 scores per individual scorecard are used to determine the top 3 out of the 4 teammates for the week’s total. the top three scores out of the four teammates from each week is used to calculate the final overall team score. This scoring methhod ensures that the team's performance isn't affected significantly if one teammate is unable to attend a bouldering league session. Rest assured, we'll include everyone's scores to track your progress. You'll be givenn a paper score sheet to track your attempts and sends. Bring your best performance because FLASHING climbs can give your scores a real boost as each attempt will bring the value of that boulder down in points.
When is the Bouldering League?
Week 1: August 30
Week 2: September 6
Week 3: September 13
Week 4 & Tailgate Party: September 20
Brand new League boulders will debut once a week. On Wednesdays, from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm, during live competition, League members will enjoy exclusive access to these boulders. Bring energy and enthusiasm because it’s going to be an absolute blast. The Tailgate Party will take place after the final session on September 20th.
September 20th, we’re throwing a post-event celebration complete with pizza, refreshing drinks, and the announcement of the winners. The winners are in for immortalized glory and ultimate bragging rights with a banner placed in our gym.
Wondering about team formation?
Create your own team of 4 and teams can be mixed! If you’re flying solo, no problem - join as a free agent, and during the first week of the competition, we’ll help assign you to a team.
How does the scoring work?
When you register online or in person, you’ll declare your current max V-grade - the highest grade you can regularly complete in a single climbing session. Your point accumulation will then revolve around this baseline. Because we use a color circuit system, try your best to determine what grade you consistently climb in a single session. The 10 boulders we set each week will be a V-Grade to assist with the scoring system.
Let’s break it down with an example: You sign up as a V3 climber and climb a V3, you receive 100 points. If you climb a V4, you receive 110 points. If you climb a V2, you score 80. Keep this in mind, Each fall will result in a 3pt deduction.
Thanks to this Relative Scoring System, any climber who can attempt a boulder of the same grade as their Max V-Grade will receive 100 points. This setup ensures that climbers of all skill levels can contribute equally to their team’s points, making sure everyone has an even playing field and receive recognition for their effort. After the 1st week, if you feel you made an error with your current max v-grade, email Tiffany@flowstoneclimbing.com, and we’ll update you accordingly.
